Most of my life, I didn’t trust myself. I tried. Girl/boy, did I try. But I really didn’t know how.
I got so much good advice from therapists, friends, my husband. I took it, but it wouldn’t stick. I had no idea why.
There were so many consequences. I was paralyzed with fear of judgement in front of other people. I judged myself. I struggled with boundary setting, addiction, anxiety, depression. You get the idea.
Even my capacity for good things was impacted. I knew what was good for me but I couldn’t stick with a plan. I had a lot of judgement about that.
Guess what? I am not alone. Once I started working to relate to my body and my nervous system with more curiosity (somatic experiencing) the advise started to sink into my bones & into my tissues. I could FEEL it. I still can.
Now I help people who are stuck in patterns like I was learn to listen to their sensations in new ways to create more ease, healing, joy, and spring in their step.

A (mostly true) Story
Once upon a time there was a child who was gifted with imagination, silliness, and starlight. Like all children, this child was shiny & bright.
But one day when the child was alone, a scary thing happened. The scary thing wasn’t all that unusual, but it was to the child. But no one could help them understand as the child didn’t have the words to talk about it. In order to protect the child from further harm, the child’s body took charge, and slowed their life force just a little to keep it safe.
Some problems began. The child began having trouble sleeping. The child got headaches and stomach aches frequently even though no one could find what was wrong.
The child believed something was wrong with them, even though nothing could be further from the truth.
When the child was a little older they met a wise and gentle healer. The healer’s gentle presence helped the child relax. The child’s body allowed the stress response cycle to complete. Their life force to begin to flow again!
Wonderful things began to happen. Many of the problems that had been impossible to mend, started to improve.
Like the child, many of us experienced an event that was too big for us to understand and have bodies that are protecting us still. Learning to listen and attune to the body can create enough expansion to allow issues to heal.
What is Somatic Experiencing?
Somatic experiencing practices can help guide a person to notice messages from the body in real time. The noticing helps you navigate to greater capacity slowly and in minute steps so as not to cause further overwhelm.
Our bodies are designed to direct energy during stressful circumstances toward fight, flight, freeze or fawn, and then release that energy once the event is over. However, when an incident is too big and we don’t have the caring support we need, the stress response cycle doesn’t fully complete and that energy becomes stuck. When the body perceives it might be in a threatening situation again, constriction arises from that same fixed place. This happens even when there isn’t actually a threat. Crazy, right?
Fortunately there’s a happy ending to our own somatic (relating to the body) story. Somatic experiencing practices follow the body’s innate ability to heal itself by gently allowing stuck energy to move again. This energy movement can create more flow and connection within the body.

I am a Somatic Experiencing practitioner (getting my SEP in November 2024). I am a musician, presenter, workshop leader, storyteller, facilitator, voice actor and singer. I appreciate helping others learn to be in better care of themselves and their bodies.
My life has been profoundly impacted by the work of SE after trying to willpower away multiple stubborn behaviors I had given up hope of ever reconciling. Learning to slow down and feel sensations in my body in real time created more ease and laughter. All of this happened over a period of time that was just right for my body to adjust to the changes and is still happening. It still takes my breath away.
I am so deeply grateful to those who paved the way for this work to come to fruition, and to Peter Levine in particular who is the founder of Somatic Experiencing. My life, my family and many of my friends’ lives are improved thanks to Peter’s curiosity and research. Peter just published a new book called In An Autobiography of Trama: A Healing Journey. It’s worth reading to learn more about SE and Peter’s work.
